Can I reuse your growing media?
At bio365 we encourage recycling of our products, but we don't recommend reusing bio365 horticultural media within high-intensity controlled envirnment agriculture (CEA).
Reuse of soil in CEA carries significant risks:
1. Carryover of pathogens or pests
2. Water and air porosity changes
3. Unknown residual nutrient ratios
At the end of the day, though, it is your decision to reuse or not. If you choose to reuse the soil, We suggest heat treatments, such as composting, or steam treatments to kill pests and pathogens. The risks of nutrient buildup and imbalances are much lower in a low-input system using organic nutrients. In high input systems it is necessary to use a soil-testing lab to understand the leftover nutrients and then adjust fertilizer inputs to account for these.
A distinct advantage of our products over mineral products is that they can be recycled rather than landfilled. bio365 horticultural media can be composted off site or at your home or facility. This composted material makes an excellent amendment for gardens, fields or raised beds. Alternatively used media can be spread or dug into your yard or fields.
