Generally, if stored properly, our soils will remain at maximum efficacy for a minimum of 12 months from the production date.
We strongly recommend storing our growing media indoors (eg. warehouse, shed, greenhouse, or other indoor space) and away from direct sunlight, rain or precipitation of any kind. We advise you to avoid storing in areas of extreme temperature fluctuations (freezing or high heat). If you must store it outdoors then, if possible, use a waterproof tarp and look for a shady area, out of direct sunlight.
If unused soil will be exposed to sustained warm-to-hot conditions, and is being stored on a wrapped pallet, we recommend removing the pallet wrap altogether or, at a minimum, perforating the wrap in order to prevent condensation from gathering.
If you do not want to remove the pallet wrap altogether, use a utility knife to carefully cut 2-4 inch horizontal slits in the wrap, and between each layer of bags, from top to bottom. Be sure to make slits on all four sides of the pallet - we recommend 20 slits per side. If you accidentally cut too deeply and nick a bag, it will not affect soil performance.
