What is bioCORE™ biochar?

bioCORE™ is our patented biochar made from virgin soft wood, a byproduct of the timber processing industry. None of the trees used in bioCORE™ were harvested solely for the purpose of making biochar. Instead, bioCORE™ puts to use byproducts that would otherwise go to waste. The wood is processed at very high temperatures in a low-oxygen environment creating a pure biochar with a stable carbon lattice.

bioCORE™ is super porous with a high surface area and low ash content. bioCORE™ biochar fosters beneficial microbial populations which are responsible for the biological buffering of nutrients. Its reactive surface binds organic materials that together provide chemical buffering of nutrients. bioCORE™ boosts the cation exchange (CEC) of our media, which provides a range of benefits, including improving nutrient efficiency. The macro-, meso- and micro-porosity of the bioCORE™ lattice is used to tailor the water release characteristics of our media to meet the needs of different crops.
